Host Computer Setup

This section describes how to set up TrueSafe on your Remote/Host Computer. The Host Computer will host the backup archives of your client users.

On the Host Computer

If you haven’t done so already, download and install TrueSafe from www.truesafe.net/download.

Enter your Registration Code by choosing Help Registration. Enter your Registration Code and click OK.

Choose Settings Edit... from the application menu. Go to the [Account] tab. Make sure your Host Computer has a valid User Name and Password. You must be signed into the TrueSafe Directory server in order to authenticate hosted users and successfully receive remote backups.

Choose the Hosted Backups section. Go to the [Hosting] tab. Enable Host Mode and set the folder under which all your hosted backups will reside. It is recommended that you keep this path as short as possible, e.g. C:\TS. Click Test; to verify that your host is accessible over the internet (If the Test button is disabled, click OK to save your Settings, then return to this dialog). If the test fails, refer to the port forwarding instructions outlined in the next step.

(If the Test passed, you can skip this step) Port forwarding- for your hosted users to communicate with your Host Computer from outside your lan and firewall, you must “port forward” port 11037 to your external (i.e. public) IP address. You can learn more about port forwarding at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_forwarding. If you have a router, or if you have multiple computers on your network, or your host test fails, chances are you will need to configure port forwarding. Port forwarding instructions for the most common routers and firewalls can be found online at: http:www.portforward.com. Once Test passes, proceed to the next step.

Click OK to save your settings. Setup of the Host Computer is complete. The remainder of these steps will utilize the web-based TrueSafe Administrative Console.

On the Web-based Administration Console

Using your web browser, go to www.truesafe.net/acctmgthome. If presented with the Sign In page, enter your User Name and Password. You should now see your Account Management page. You manage your host computer and hosted user settings using this console. Click on the Computer Name of your Host Computer to continue setup.

Setting your Total Storage Quota: Choose Edit for “Total Storage Quota”. This sets the total amount of storage to allocate for all your hosted users. Enter the quota amount and click Save.

Host Computer setup is now complete! Note that your Host Computer must be connected to the internet and Signed In in order for users to be authenticated and for backups to be performed.

You can proceed to Provisioning a User to add a Hosted User to your service.
