Installation and Setup

I get a Windows Firewall alert, what is this?
TrueSafe uses ports to communicate with remote computers that you back up to. It also communicates with our Directory Server for user authentication. You can go to the Control Panel, Windows Firewall, Exceptions area, and add TrueSafe as an exception.

Why do I need a User Name and password?
Your sign in enables you to take advantage of TrueSafe features, including email notifications, backing up to a remote computer, and hosting user backups. TrueSafe uses your User Name and password to authenticate you with remote computers. This provides the security required for a remote computer to verify your credentials, and for you to verify the credentials of users that you host.

I want to backup to 2 different places, how do I do that?
The Professional Edition supports multiple backup profiles. You can create two backup profiles, one for each backup destination.

Backup

My Outlook won't backup unless I close it. What's the problem?
Make sure the Windows Volume Shadow Service (VSS) is running. This needs to be running in order to backup locked files. Go to the Control Panel, choose Administrative Tools, and then Services. Scroll down to the Volume Shadow Copy service, and make sure the status indicates Started, and the Startup Type is Automatic.

Remote Backup

How do I set up Remote Backup?
Here are step by step instructions for setting up a Host Computer: Host Computer Setup Guide Users you authorize can then backup their data to your host computer.

I don’t see a remote computer shown in my list of available Remote Computers
Check the following:
i. Make sure you are signed in. Go to Settings, Edit, Hosted Backups area and select the Account tab.
ii. The owner of the remote computer must first give you permission to backup to their machine. This is done on the remote computer by going to Tools, Options, Hosted Backups, and selecting the Hosted Users tab. Choose Edit to add a hosted user.

Miscellaneous
I want to upgrade to the Professional Edition, what do I do?
Simply go to the Buy page and buy the professional license. In most cases, you simply enter the registration code provided when you buy, no need to reinstall the program or setup your backup profile again. If you’re running an older version of TrueSafe, you may need to download the most recent version.

Can I use TrueSafe to offer my own online backup service?
Yes, we offer an Enterprise Host Edition that can support a large number of hosted users. Contact Sales for further information.
